Quilting Weekend

I've had a wonderful time sewing all weekend.  Don't you just enjoy weekends where there is nothing "pressing"?  No chores or commitments.  Just me-time.

I haven't been able to put away my Sakura Park quilt (January NewFO).  I just love it too much.  I stopped by our local quilt shop on Thursday and picked up some fabric for a stop border and larger outer border.

Check out this fabric!

It's so vintage feeling.

Then for the border fabric I went in a totally different direction.  I went bright and crazy and used a fabric that just makes me smile.

Look how cute those bubbles on the pink are!!!

So question, how do you join your strips when doing sashing and borders?

I prefer to do a diagonal join.  I find that our eye tends to flow from left to right on a quilt...a diagonal seam tends to disappear, especially once the quilting is done.

Here's a look at one of my joins before piecing.

Oh back to my quilt top!!!

I now have the top completely pieced.

Here is a close up:

I know the border is so much brighter then the rest of the quilt, but for me, it's what made it my quilt.  I had to laugh when I was at the quilt shop last week, a couple of people commented how the colours (the Sakura Park fabric) was so not me!!!  And it's true, I usually do not gravitate to this style, but something about these fabrics have a hold on me (how cool that people know what I like!!!).  And the brighter pink just makes it fun.

What else did I do?  Well I read a whole book this weekend...is this weekend longer then other weekends???  Where did this time come from?

A couple of weeks back I won a prize package on a blog giveaway at Qreative Quilts and Quests.  It was a beautiful assortment of red and aqua fabrics.

Well February is here and you know what that means...February NewFO!!!!  I can start something without worrying about my UFOs and projects that need to be done.   No guilt at all!

So while I was at the quilt shop, I picked up a couple of fat quarters and some sashing fabric to go with my brand new cutie patootie red and aqua fabrics.

As you can see, I've already starting cutting...hmmm...wonder what I'm doing with these?????

Have a good one everyone, I better check with the family and see if the power has come back on at the Superbowl (you can tell I'm really invested in the game aren't I?  LOL...I was just excited about uninterrupted sewing time!).

love love the colors of that quilt. I am not a pink person either but these pinks really pull you in. I spent a great weekend sewing too.so much fun to be able to do that.
The game is back on. guess they fixed the lighting issue in the dome.

Lovely border, not too bright at all. And the pink/teal, I see they go so well together. Cheers from Jean

great border fabric. When I do borders, I try and buy enough so that I can cut a single long strip , i really hate the seam. when a seam is required it's usually a straight one. i do try and match the fabric at the join as much as possible. It really depends on the fabric as well, ie: s
plaids really dont like a seam.
